According to interior designer Michael Mariotti, quality of life and happiness go hand-in-hand with a well-designed home. “If you are comfortable in your environment, then you will be better equipped to face life’s challenges,” he strongly believes. While Mariotti’s clients have different criteria for their houses, the interior designer’s common thread is his ability to make each home a reflection of the client’s best qualities. His philosophy and approach creates homes that are smart, inspiring, and ultimately functional. Assisted by a staff of three, Mariotti is personally responsible for each project’s design vision. After meeting with clients to understand their needs and preferences, he develops the interior, and often exterior, concepts. He applies his “classic style with a modern twist” to balance functionality and timelessness. His own recently-constructed home, which he designed reminiscent of a French chateau, is often complimented by people who say it looks as if it has always been there. As concerns for the environment have increased, so has Mariotti’s inclusion of eco-sensitive products and finishes with naturally aesthetic qualities. Bamboo and cork flooring, natural textiles, and recycled tile have been incorporated into recent projects. Energy-efficient LED lighting is also regularly used in conjunction with ample natural light. Attention to detail, sophisticated color palettes, and elegant styling are hallmarks of the firm’s work. Custom furniture designs cater to clients’ exacting needs. Mariotti’s expertise in lighting design has resulted in stunning use of light, such as in one kitchen, where, a cove ceiling was clad in tin and illuminated by xenon lights; the design makes the entire ceiling glow with warmth. From an early age, Mariotti has been known for his motivation and energy. As a senior in high school, he worked part-time for a design firm. The job nurtured his passion and proficiency for design. His employers also recognized his talent, sponsoring him in a variety of pre-college courses at prestigious NY design schools. Mariotti went on to earn an interior design degree from Parsons School of Design, which included significant coursework in lighting design. He founded Michael Mariotti Interior Design in 1987, and has since completed high-end residential and commercial projects in the metropolitan area and across the country. Mariotti is a professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers and an associate member of both the International Association of Lighting Designers and the National Kitchen and Bath Association. His projects have been featured in New York Spaces, New Jersey Monthly, and Showhouse
